So Lylah has had ear issues for, well, all her life. She gets ear infections VERY frequently. When she was 2 she had surgery to remove her adenoids and tonsils to cure her sleep apnea. Before they do the surgery and after they send you for a hearing test so they can make sure that nothing was damaged in the process. Well the before test showed she had a hearing impairment in her left ear. My poor baby girl couldn’t barely hear out of her left ear because of fluid build up and constant ear infections. So, when they did the surgery they also put tubes in both ears. The tube in her right ear came out a long time ago and we have had ZERO problems with it. The left ear, not so much, every three weeks or so we have ear infections and more often than not she has this gooey oozing grossness that comes out of her ear (which is quite annoying I wanna add-because then it gets stuck in her hair and I have to wash her hair all the time and yea-just annoying) It used to be blood that would come out, and let me tell you the first time that happened I thought I was going to have a heart attack! Blood dripping down her face from her ear, yes, I died.
So we took the hour and twenty minute car ride to the ENT yesterday. Turns out, the tube is still in there. It is being held in place and blocked by granulated tissue. He explained to me that this isn’t good. The tube wants to come out, which is why it is getting irritated and producing this gook. So, we are trying our first option. He gave us a bottle of ciprodex drops that we have to put in her ear twice a day(for two weeks) and it should “melt” away the granulated tissue and then the tube should be able to come out on it’s own. We go back in a month to see if it is still there and what is going on. If it has not come out on its own then he will have to go in and remove it. Then we have to wait it out and see how she does without the tube. If she does okay then we just go back every 6 months for check ups. If not, then we go back and have tubes again *sigh* We also have to wait to see what happens with the tube and then do a hearing test too, because she has shared with us on more than one occasion that she cannot really hear out of that ear “everything is fuzzy” 😦 So I am hoping it is just because of the grossness in her ear and her hearing hasn’t been effected!!
Last night she actually reminded me to put the ear drops in, she has been a trooper. She is VERY sensitive when it comes to this ear, but she let me put the drops in and then we went off to bed. Which only lasted 15 minutes and she was in mine. BUT I must say.. last night was a GOOD night of sleep. She slept so soundly and didn’t move or kick me out of the bed. I wish every night could be like that, and then we can get her to do it in her own bed!! haha.
I have been trying to teach Lylah different coping methods to calm her down, and it has prevented some breakdowns, so far. I know this will not last forever but I will take it for now!
